Dare – The Wild Side, Rest in Peace 1968-2010
Sigi von Koeding aka DARE has lost the fight to cancer and died tonight in Basel. We are stunned and shocked by the rapid development and the loss of one of the most important graffiti writers of the world. Our sympathy goes to the family and close friends of Sigi.

Stussy – J Dilla Documentary Prt3 (of 3) from Stussy on Vimeo.
Read MoreWith J. Dilla you get the sense that certain people could just talk about him forever, telling stories about the minutiae of a beat or his idiosyncrasies in the studio. The detail of his life is what will make him an endlessly fascinating figure in music, on top of his actual musical influence. Stussy added another layer to the oral history by producing this three-part documentary of the key Stones Throw figures spinning their best yarns about personal experiences with him and have now posted it in full. Watch parts one and two after the jump and then send an email to Stussy and Stones Throw to see if they?ll press up some more of their limited edition Dilla tees since eBay doesn?t donate proceeds to the J Dilla Foundation and that?s the only place you can currently find them.

GANGSTARR’S GURU IN COMA AFTER CARDIAC ARREST
Legendary Brooklyn MC Guru — half of the infamous hip-hop duo Gang Starr — is in a coma after suffering from cardiac arrest this weekend. Guru’s sister broke the news explaining that her brother, real name Keith Elam, had to remain in the hospital due to complications from the heart attack.Details remain scarce on the rapper’s condition but DJ Premier, Gang Starr’s second half, phoned into Sirius Satellite radio station Hip Hop Nation to confirm the details that have been leaked so far.
“Guru is in a coma and will go under surgery tomorrow afternoon,” Premier said.
Guru — originally Keithy E. The Guru — formed the pioneering hip-hop group Gang Starr in the mid-80s, teaming with Premier in the late ’80s. The Brooklyn based duo’s debut album was 1989′s ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy,’ and they went on to release several successful albums. Guru’s solo work includes four volumes of the Jazzmatazz series and he later launched both Ill Kid Records and 7 Grand record labels.

Guru, the rapping half of GangStarr, suffered a heart attack over the weekend and went into a coma. One of his publicists issued a statement calling for fans to pray for him.“Like you, I’m praying that he makes it through,” says the publicist. Let’s try not to entertain the rumors. Instead, keep Guru in your prayers, and encourage everyone to think positively so that our collective energy will help him through!!!”
The latest on Guru’s health is that he went through a life-saving surgery. The surgery was successful and the 43-year old rapper is expected to recover fully, according to sources that spoke to AllHipHop.com. “Guru is alive and recovering from his surgery. Doctors are expecting a full recovery luckily,” a source told AllHipHop.com.

Read MoreQueen Anne’s Counterbalance Park Defaced by Highly Resourceful, Aesthetically Unimaginative Morons
Tagging’s cool, we all know that. And at a time when the city is literally laying off hundreds of people, and services are being cut everywhere, it’s nice to know that Seattle Parks gets to blow part of its meager budget trying to clean up after the assholes who tagged Counterbalance Park on Lower Queen Anne last night.Admittedly, the park is kind of crying out for rough treatment, given its stark, tabula rasa design. As Brian Miller noted in his public-art cover story last April, this is the rare park that most comes to life at night.
And admittedly, it’s an impressive feat–these guys must have hung off ropes or something. [Correction: Not that impressive; fire extinguishers are apparently the standard method, according to comments below. Duh, kind of obvious from looking at it.] The parks staff themselves were baffled at how the taggers pulled this off. They seem to make a specialty of scaling sheer vertical surfaces, as they (or someone akin to them) did in 2008 on the wall alongside Vain salon in Belltown.
Still, couldn’t 3AK BTM–who would seem to be part of a tribute cult for deceased graffiti hero Kerse–have come up with something a little more deserving of wall space than this scrawl?
Will this silence the rumors that she is a post-op tranny…
you can get a better look at her meat curtains after the cut
