D’oh – Writer Scribes Window While Dozens of Cops Watch
Joshua Vasquez probably thought nothing of the non-descript, tinted window he was scribing on at the Commerce Aquatic Center. Unfortunately, on the other side of the darkened glass, 100 law enforcement officials were attending a training class and watching his every move.
Officers first thought Vasquez was stopping to wave hello while a sheriff’s captain was holding a lecture on “the importance of having backup when engaged in foot pursuits.”
But once Vasquez opened the door to get up on the inside, he looked up in horror as dozens of cops started rising up from their chairs to confront him.
Vasquez turned and made a run for it with about 40 cops on his tail for about a block until he stumbled, fell, and was quickly manhandled into submission. After being placed in a squad car, the 6’4″, 280 lb writer made a token attempt at escape by kicking out a rear window. Commendable but ultimately futile.
He was booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and locked up. Bail has been set at $20,000.
Sheriff Captain Mike Parker said that “Looking at the door later on, it turns out we could see him, but he couldn’t see us,” Parker said. “It would appear he picked the wrong room to vandalize.”
